From June 2014 it is a Department of Health requirement for trust boards to receive monthly updates on ward staffing levels.
The publication in November 2013 of “How to ensure the right people, with the right skills, are in the right place at the right time” (Chief Nursing Officer for England, National Quality Board, November 2013) sets out ten expectations relating to nursing, midwifery and care staffing capacity and capability and is a guide aimed to support providers and commissioners to meet the expectations of the people using their services.
All inpatient wards of East Cheshire NHS Trust are recording and reporting their staffing levels each month.
The attached monthly Unify reports show the total number of hours planned to be covered on each ward and the actual number of hours covered on each ward. This information is split between qualified and unqualified staff.
See our trust board papers for monthly 'exception reports', which give some further background and explanation to the staffing statistics.
The NHS Choices website also provides data outlining how trust staffing levels will be published.
