Safe Staffing

In line with the National Quality Board guidance (2016), we regularly review the staffing levels in each ward and use a national validated workforce tool, called the Safer Nursing Care Tool to assess the acuity and dependency of our patients twice yearly, which, along with the professional judgement of our senior nurses and quality indicators, is used to determine the safe staffing levels for our different wards.

All NHS Trusts are required to publish details of planned and actual nurse staffing levels as a response to the Francis Report which called for improved openness and transparency in the NHS.

Accessing information about our staffing levels

Information about staffing levels will be published monthly on this page and you can find the latest reports below.

Other information about staffing on our wards

We display details of the nurse in charge of the shift, and the number of staff on duty on our wards and in the emergency department, on quality boards that are visible to patients and visitors and staff at the entrance to these areas.
